The Constitution Doesn’t Stop at the Schoolhouse Gate

Ken Paxton is investigating school districts for allegedly facilitating unlawful activity — but there’s no legal basis for claiming these schools did anything unlawful. Students have a constitutional right to protest. School administrators have a duty to keep students safe. That’s not facilitating a crime — that’s doing their jobs.

What Paxton is really doing is investigating high school students for exercising their First Amendment rights and intimidating the schools that refused to stop them. This is what happens when you turn the Attorney General’s office into a weapon for political retribution instead of using it to protect Texans.

I’ve spent my entire career fighting corruption and standing up to powerful people who abuse their positions. As Attorney General, I will protect Texans’ constitutional rights — not suppress them because students dare to speak out.
